September Newsletter
Welcome to the 2026-2027 School Year!
To all our returning students, we are thrilled to welcome you back and hope your summer was filled with relaxation and adventure. To the students and families who are joining our school community for the first time, we offer a warm welcome and look forward to helping you feel at home here at Monsignor William Irwin School.
This year’s Division theme, Rooted in Joy, invites us to grow together in faith and gratitude, nurturing our students’ minds and spirits through the fruits of the Spirit. As we are reminded in Galatians 5:22,
“The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness…”
These are the qualities that help us grow strong roots in our faith and guide the way we learn, live, and care for one another.
At Monsignor William Irwin, we will live out this verse by recognizing that joy is something that grows when we are rooted in faith, connected to one another, and guided by the Spirit. Through stories such as The Smile That Went Around the World and The Little Book of Joy, we will explore how even the smallest smile, act of kindness, or moment of connection can create a ripple effect that reaches far beyond ourselves.
When challenges arise, we will seek joy in gratitude, compassion, and the support we find in one another. Together, we will nurture a community where everyone feels valued, included, and inspired to share joy with others. As a school community Rooted in Joy, we will grow in faith and love, spreading kindness and joy throughout Monsignor William Irwin and beyond.
On behalf of our entire staff, we are excited to welcome everyone to what promises to be a fantastic year of learning through Hope, Faith, and JOY!

Meet the Teacher
We look forward to welcoming our families to our Meet the Teacher on Monday, August 31st, from 3:00–5:00 p.m. Please bring your child, school supplies, and lots of excitement! This is a wonderful opportunity to visit your child’s classroom, meet their teacher, drop off school supplies, and begin building those important connections before the first day of school.
First Day of School
We will welcome students for their first day of school on Wednesday, September 2nd. Classes begin at 8:32 a.m., and our staff will be outside to greet students beginning at 8:20 a.m. We are so excited to see everyone and begin a new school year together!
Staffing Update
We would like to share a staffing update with our MWI families. Mrs. Laba’s leave has been extended, and we want to wish her all the very best during this time. We look forward to welcoming her back to MWI.
In the meantime, we are pleased to welcome Mrs. Marta Chomej to the MWI team in the Acting Assistant Principal role. Marta brings a wealth of experience, care, and dedication to our school community, and we are grateful that she has stepped into this role to support our students, families, and staff. Please join us in welcoming Marta to her new role. We know she will be a wonderful addition to our leadership team!
